Song Lyrics Activity Reflection
Please write a reflection saying what you think about the song lyrics activity we just completed. You can answer some or all of the questions below, or come up with your own comments.
Things to deal with in your reflection include (but are not limited to):
Did you like analyzing songs you chose?
Were some songs too hard or didn’t have enough to analyze?
Was your group able to understand the song without having the teacher explain it to the whole class?
Were the questions you had to answer confusing? Did some of them seem to not apply to your song at all?
How did you like posting your answers on the blog? Did it help seeing what other people wrote, or do you feel people were just copying each other’s answers?
Was it useful how Mrs. Zana replied to your comments, or were her comments hard to understand (i.e., it would have been easier to just talk)? Did you ever feel that you wrote a question and Mrs. Zana wasn’t able to answer you back?
Finally, any suggestions for next year?

We understood the song but we had some difficult questions. Some of the quetions had nothing to do with the song, e.g., punctuation how does this affect the poem’s tone and meaning?, was one of the quetions that had nothing to do with the song. We have not posted our song questions up on the blog, but we are done with the questions.

But I liked it a little becuase I got to know my freinds a little better.I think this is a good asighnment for next year becuase it will help them with social skills.Oh!I aalmost forgot.I thought it was confusing and some of the queetoins wre hard to aswer.

We thought this project was kind of fun because we got to get into groups. We did not like analyzing the songs because we just like listening to them. We were not interested in finding the song’s true meaning by analyzing it. We were able to understand the song easily without teachers help. We thought it was a bad idea before it was do because some people with the same song were able to copy our answers. It was useful how Mrs. Zana replied to our comments because we knew what to fix in our comments. For next year we think the project should be a lot bigger they should do it on paper before posting it after you check it.

We did not like analyzing the songs we chose. It was useful to have Mrs. Zana comments to be able to use. We liked postig our aswers on the blog because it seemed fun and filled with suspense for whether it would post or not. We have no suggestions for next year. In conclusion most of the time we felt bored.

We think that the song lyrics activity wasn’t that much fun. We didn’t really like to analyze the song we chose becuase it was a little to hard. The song didn’t really have enough to analyze. we were able to do itbt he teacher didn’t explain it. the questions were a little confusing and some of them didn’t apply to the song. We both liked posting our answers to the blog also it help to see what other people wrote. It was useful how Mrs.Zana replied to our comments but her comments weren’t hard. We never felt that what we wrote Mrs.Zana wouldn’t answer back. We both have a suggestion for next year. You should pick a song that will answer all the questions to get a better grade.

We did like analyzing the song because the song we picked it and it was easy to analyzing.
Our group was able to understand the song we choose and it wasn’t that hard so we diid’t need help.

Some thing that we liked was picking our own song. The song had to much to analyze for some questions but for others we didn’t have enough to analyze so that made a bit hard. Most of the song was easy to understand but some of the song was hard to understand. Some of the questions were hard but most of them easy. All of them applied to the song.

Did you like analyzing songs you chose?
We liked analyzing the songs we chose because we worked in groups and if we don’t understand something our partner will help us.
Were some songs too hard or didn’t have enough to analyze? The song that we chose was easy and had enought to analyze.
Was your group able to understand the song without having the teacher explain it to the whole class? We understood it without the teacher to explain it.
Were the questions you had to answer confusing? Did some of them seem to not apply to your song at all? Some of the question were confusing, but we figured it out.One of the question didn’t apply.

Sandy- I personally enjoyed it because it helps us go further than just words and
helps us understand how the singer feels.
Mursal- I also like it a lot because we learned how to get to the meaning of the song
and really dig through it.
Nandi- The song that we had was a little different to me because I really don’t listen to that kind of music. With this assignment I wanted to do something diffrent and challenge myself with the song. Once i did the song it was a little easier because once I read the song I understood. Then Mursal asked me ” What does this line mean?” I really looked at the song lyrics and I understood.
Wendy- To me it was okay because i got to learn how to find the mood and tone of the song.

We did enjoy analyzing the songs we chose. It was very hard to analyze the meaning of the poem. Yes though it was hard, but it help us have a better understanding when teacher explained it to us. Yes because they were confusing and hard ,but all the questions apply. It didn’t help posting on the blog ,but it was fun.

I thought that it was pretty fun analyzing the song I chose. It was easy becsuse it didn’t have a lot of hard language. My group was able to understand the song without having the tacher explain to the whole class because each one of us chose a question to work on.I liked posting them and I don’t think that anyone was copying. It was useful how mrs.zana replied to our comments because it helped me on a question. Some questions were confusing.

We thought that the song lyrics activity was fun, but we really didn’t understand the questions. We had lots of fun analyzing the songs that we chose especially because we really like the song. The songs weren’t really hard. The hard part of the activity was the questions. We were not able to answer some of the questions without the teacher’s help.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:22 am
The questions weren’t so confusing but some were.
All the questions applied the song.
Posting the notes in the blog was cool because you didn’t have to write it in paper.
I think it helped seeing other people’s answers because it helped everyone with there answers andgave us a clue of what to do.

To add more to our last reflection, we did not like analyzing the song because the song we chose was difficult and our suggestion for next year is put songs on the blog for the poetry assignment to be more understandable.

Natalia - The song we did, “Wake Me Up When September Ends”, was fun to do because it had lots of emotion and meaning. This would be a great example for next year. When I read the song I knew what we would say.
Nancy - we had a pretty easy song sooo we didnt have a problem at all.but there were some questions that didnt have anything to do with the song like:did the punctuation have any effect to the tone of meaning? we didnt do that question because our song didnt have any punctuation…so i think it is a pretty good activity beacuse i never really looked at a song like that and it made me understand it alot better!

We thought that the song lyrics of “Wake Me Up When September Ends” was kind of hard because some of the questions were hard to understand. Like figuring out what the meaning of the song meant. Although it was a good experience trying to figure out what the tone meant and what the meaning of the song was. All in all we think you should do this next year, but do the activity easier next time.

The song lyrics activity was fun. It was hard to figure out the rythm without the listening to the song. The cool part was that we were able to do submit to the computer.I hope we are able to do another of these activities again.

Our song wasn’t as easy to analyze like we thought it would. We all liked the song & knew what the lyrics were but we didn’t know what they meant. We weren’t able to find answers for all the questions but we tried to make them as reasonable as we could. We never got a reply from Mrs. Zana but we hope we did well in this assignment. Some of the questions were confusing, like question number 4 that reads, “Find examples of figurative language (metaphors, similes, personification, idioms, hyperbole) What do they mean? Why does the author use them?” It wasn’t as easy as saying how the tone of the song meant. We think that talking about it is more useful because when other kids give their opinions, you can have a conversation to understand what the author is trying to say. Plus its alot faster. For next year, you should have the kids talk about it then comment on the blog to make sure that they understand and agree with everything.

*~Valerie & Clariza~*-The song we did was Wake Me Up when September Ends.I thought it was pretty easy ,but some of the things were kind of hard like finding the similies .The song was hard to do in some of the parts like when he said when his father died it tricked us a few times ,but then we got it.

It was a fun project to work on and we think next year they would enjoy it alot because it was songs that others entered. Our song was challenging. It was difficult to go into the depth of the song and know what the author was thinking when he wrote it.We learned more about this kind of genre. Another thing that was hard was all the figurative language.e.g. i’m the son of rage and love but then we figured out what it means it means hes the son of his father (rage) mother (love)
April 18th, 2006 at 12:22 pm
We did not like this activity because some of the questions were hard. Question 7 was difficult because it did not apply to some songs like “When I’m Gone”. We think that next year poems should be used next year.

It was fun to really try to figure out what a song means;that there is more to it than what you hear. There is a lot to ponder about, once you learn the meanings of words or phrases, or why an author used cliches. However, trying to understand “using cliches” from the author’s point of view is hard, since we didn’t think that through. We think this was the hardest thing in the project we had to think of .But after all we suceeded into answering the cliche question, we think.
Writting our answers in the blog was useful and more usefull was for you to answer back to us this really helped our group since we had a chance to change and go over what we needeed to improve on.For our group it was not hard to understand your comments.

Our group had a good time doing this poetry assignment. We enjoyed posting the answers on the blog. It was more fun to answer them on the blog than answer them on a piece of paper. It sort of helped seeing what other people had posted because it gave us an idea of what they thought about the song. We all understood what the questions were asking, but Mrs. Zana didn’t understand what our group was trying to say. We don’t have any ideas for next year.
