December 12th Homework

All of this is due AFTER vacation.

1. Finish reading “The Giver” during vacation if you are absent when we read it in class.

2. Complete your Reading Journal. For each chapter, pick a short quote that interests you. Explain the quote and, more importantly, write what your opinion is. You can do the journal by hand, by word processing, or by posting it on the studentjournals wiki on your page.

3. Read 30 minutes a day. Mark the reading on your reading log. On January 1st, switch to your January reading log. After vacation, you will turn in the December log only. On February 1st you will turn in your January log.

4. If you want to improve your grade, there is an extra credit assignment. You will need to read either “Esperanza Rising” or another equivalent book that I approve ahead of time. In addition to reading the book, you will need to answer questions. The questions for Esperanza are available; ask me for them. If you get approved for reading a different book, you will probably need to do a reading journal like we did for “The Giver”. You can count this extra credit book on your log. The part that is extra credit is answering the questions.
