Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
Discussion (Answer these questions on the blog.):
1. What message is Dr. Seuss trying to get across about a person’s destiny? What do you think your destiny is? Why do you think you are destined to go down that path in life?
2. Do you believe that people have a choice where they end up in life? How do you know this? Give examples to support your response.
3. Even as a 6th grader, what difficulties have you faced in your life that you feel you need to overcome in order to be successful?
4. The poem talks about “strange birds” you will get mixed up with in life. Who are these strange birds and do you see any of them in your life right now? What are you going to do about those “birds?”
5. What “mountains” do you plan to move in the future?

1. I think that what he is trying to get accros to us
about our destiny is that even if we fall we will be able to get up from the fall and that you WILL succeed.I think that my destiny will be that I will succed if I try, because I try really hard to accomplish everything that I start and I plan on doing that with school.
3. Yes I do think that people get to choose on where they end up in life. Like a mother and dad that come to america to get a better education for themselves and their family and if they try really hard they will succeed.
4. Well what I think that I need to overcome is there was a time in my life when people would tell me that I wouldn’t be able to succed in life but even if it’s slowly I am starting to overcome that.
5. The ” Mountains ” that I plan to move in the future are the people that say that you can’t succed in life because you can and will.

4. I think that those birds are the people hat don’y believe in us and that believe that we can’t do it. No I don’t see any of those ” Birds ” right now. I will try to overcome them as well as I will try to overcome the rest of my problems and my fears.

1.He is trying to say that to reach your destiny you must be successful.My destiny is to go to college and get a degree that lets you be a surgeon general.Because I like seeing people do surgeries.
2.No.Because sometimes you might end up having your girfriend pregnant and you having to drop out of school and quiting your dreams. My friend’s sister had to drop out of school because she got pregnant.

#1 I think that Dr. Suess is trying to tell us that our destinies have its ups and downs. Many people tell me that I am going to grow up and be an artist because I can draw very well, but I was thinking of working in the film industry doing speacial effects and stuff like that or maybe make a well known cartoon. Maybe I will use my art skills for something else. I know that I will do something with art because that is my speacialty!
#2 I strongly believe that people choose their life ahead of them because children who mess up badly a school end up messing up in the future too. Your interests and intellegence also helps you for your future. That is why kids who mess around in class end up looking at a job in McDonalds. I know this because I see the people around me, and the way they act suits what they do. My friend also talks alot about her career in the future and the way she acts about it and what she does at school tells me she WILL sucede.
#3 Somethings that I have faced are getting the feeling of being alone. When people tease me or look at me in a strange way of disgust, it makes me wish I had no one but me to think of but I don’t. Having friends and family kept my spirits even if my family is broken in half I will still stand strong. In order to over come I think that I need to be strong in the heart and let NO ONE put me down. I wil also keep doing what I love alot and persue my destiny.
#4 I think that the strange birds are people behind masks. They are people that we can get mixed up by. They can be your friends or your worst nightmare. I am not so sure that I see these birds right now, but you can never be too careful. The way that I will handle the good birds is that I will get to know them until they are no longer strange. The bad birds all I can truly say is that they can just give me all they got but it won’t hurt me or put me down.
#5 I plan to go to college and go to the top of my game to be the best I can be. I also plan to be rich and have mansion. (I always tease my friends that they can have a job at my mansion as chef or maid or something) I also hope to have a successful career.

1. I think that he is trying to say that we will go through hard and easy times also through some times that you’ll just are going to wait, but sometimes you’ll fall then get right back up. I think I will fall but try to get right up, that I’ll wait, also that I will succed in something. I don’t know if I’ll go trough this path.
2. I know people have desion to choose. I know this because done things that lead to bad and good things. Like dropping out of school then you have a harder time getting a job. Also drugs sometime you wouldn’t be able to have kids or have mental problems.
3. I don’t really know what to overcome maybe to get mind into studying instead of t.v.
4. I do have strange birds in my life. I can overcome them by talking.
5. The mountians I’ll able to move are people in my way to succed.

1.He is trying to say that when your older you will go through many things like you will not have a good week at work and so on.I think my destiniy in life is to become the worlds greatest technition.Why, well because im really into technoligy and i like studying about it.
2.Yes i do tihnk people have a choice in where they end up in life. I know this because my cousin wanted to be an engineer in the Marines but didn’t want to leave his family so he stayed and became a doctor assistant.
3.I need to over come family problems because it is really distracting me.
4.I think hes talking about gangs.I defenitly see them a lot in school, at the bus stop, and even at videogame stores.I just ignore them if i see them because i dont want to get in trouble.

Dr.Suess was trying to say that everyone will succeed even when bad things happen to them. Trying to succeed will give you a wider chance in your life. I think my destiny is not going to be bad. I will stay in school and try my hardest when I am at school. I think that I will go this path because I try my hardest and try to succeed in the things I put my mind to.

Yes, i think that poeple have a chose at where they are going. For example where kids choose to go when they are done with school or a period of their life. I know this because I have seen it around me over the years. For example one of my family members decided to get married and then she got divorsed and thhen stop with school which ruined her life.

I think the birds in your life are the poeple tha make you feel like an bad person or thinks that they are the best and can do what they please to do to that person. Yes, I have come along people who thought they could do bad things to me. I think that I have to forget those poeple and move on with my life and learn with what happened.

1.I think that he is trying to motivate you by saying and telling you that in life there is ups and downs and wherever you go there is always a solution.My destiny is to become a very confident person and to suceed in the future to accomplish my dreams even if I have problems.I think I’m destined in the path because I know I do my best and achieve.
2.Yes, I do think that people could choose where they want to end up in the future because it is something that they have achieved for.There is a probability that the will achieve and end up were they want to be.A young adult who goes to college and studies hard suceeds in their hard work is an example of hard work which should make them have pride in themselves.
3.As a 6th grader I had to confront problems I never thought about. I had to change classes and also teach myself on what I had been left out on to be on the same level as my classmates.
4.I would say that those birds are the ones who have negative thoughts and do not wish to become someone in the future.Yes, I do see those kinds of birds, I would tell them to have confidence and try hard to become someone in life.
5.The mountains I plan to move in the future are the ones that bring negativity in themselves.I would also move the mountains that are the ones that only bring problems to people.

What I think Dr.Sues message is that wherever you go make the right dicitions.I also think the message is that the thing that happen to you may not all your fault.Another message is that do not wait on things to happen.So appreciate the good things in life.What I think my distiny is going to be I will go to collage.I think I this is my distany because I would like to have more knowledge.Also,because I would like to have a good job.

1. I think the message that the author is trying to give out is to not mess up your life and to try your on something you want to do so you can succeed.I think my destiny is to make a difference in this world because i am setting a goal for a successful job that will help make a difference.
2.I don’t think people have really a choice of what will happen to them because it is really about the decisions you make that will create your future.I know this because I’ve seen things that happen to people caused from the decision they have made.For example, someone who goes to college that person will have a good future if he sticks to it,but a person who doesn’t go ands starts his life there will most likely not have the requirements to live a successful future.

1.”Dont mix yourself your self with your left and your right” that message meant that you should always keep your head up.Ab destiny is like your path u will take when your older.Your destined to go that because your way to succed.
2.Yes, we know because we have olderbrother/and sisters that told us so.When your older u get to make your own decisions.Your life changes.

1.Dr. Suess is trying say that life has a lot of troubles.You can in be the happiest point in life and the next second you can be really sad.I think my destiny is going to be rough at first but in a while everything is going to be okay.I want to go to Law School and become an District Attorney. I think I am destined to go down that path becuse I like to defend people and I think law is interesting.
2. I believe that people do have a choice where they end up in life because it is up to you what you do in your life because your in control of if you want to work hard and succeed in life and not be lazy.I know this because always people that want to succeed work as hard as they can.

1. I think Dr.Suess is trying to say that the destiny or life of a person depends on the person that tries to succeed.
Destiny means the life of a person,and what is going to happen to them in the future,and the descisions they make.
I think my destiny is going to be a succeeding destiny,because I will try my hardest to do my best in school.If I put my mind to something I can succeed.I think I am destined to go through that path because I will take the right descisions in life.
2.I think people do have a choice in life where they end up.When people make a bad choice its up to them to recognize it and change or they can really mess up their life.
I know this because my brother he messed up at a really bad age and was taking drugs,but he realized and stopped.
3.Some diffuculties as a 6th grader are that I get distracted easily by people or objects.I will try to overcome this problem.

1.) That a person’s destiny has ups and downs and that there will be obstacles to overpower and there will be happy moments where one will shine. Destiny is what is awaiting a person in the future. I think my destiny is to be a successful veternarian

i think they do because people always have choices
they chose from what is right and wrong.like people that do drugs or drink they chose what they do and some people just chose to do dumb things like that and mess up there lives 4 ever.i know this because i have seen people that are homless and are drinking in the street.one time some even asked me for money and i i gave to him thinking he was gonna buy food.nope he went across the street and bought beer.so yes i do belive that people have lots of choises in life.

I THINK ONE OF MY NUMBER ONE DIFFICULTIES IN THE 6TH GRADE WOULD HAVE TO BE GETTING GOOD GRADES.CAUSE YOUR GRADES ARE GONNA BE WITH YOU FOR EVER AND WHEN ITS TIME TO GO TO COLLAGE THERE GONNA LOOK AT YOUR GRADES AMD ETHIER EXEPT YOU TO GO TO THEIR SCHOOL OR REJECT YOU.SO I THIK I NEED TO OVER COME THAT FEAR CAUSE I GET VERY STREESED OUT AND DONT DO MY BEST.

1. I think that Dr. Seuss is trying to get across is that sometimes you will have great days, but sometimes you will have some bad days. It also depends how the person is because some people don’t want to succeed but others do. I think my destiny is to be a pharmacist because like helping people buy telling some medicines do and their symptoms. I always wanted to work with medicine for ome reason.
2. I do believe that people have choice where they endup life. I know this because sometimes when a girl gets pregnant she must either drop out of school or just keep going to school. This might be sad but this sometimes happens.
3. As a 6th I hadone diffulty and it was to my brother that I was good. I have already proved it to a couple weeks ago. By doing this Ilearned that you can prove people wrong when they think you can’t do it.
4. I think the strange birds are the people who are going to get you into trouble. Those might be pretending to be your friend but then backstab you in the end. They also might take advantage of you. Right now I haven’t seen any of these strange birds. If I come across these strange birds I will try to stay away from them because they might get me into trouble.
5. I plan to go through colege and try to get in the medical business because I want be the head pharmacist in any pharmarcy. I also plan to be rich to own many fancy cars.

1. I think that it says that everyones destiny has it’s ups and downs and that you can go down diffrent roads in life. I think i’m destined to be a scientist because im good at math and science and because I have great ideas for inventions.
2. I don’t think people have a choice I think destiny is set in stone you can try and try to change and you might but that is already your destiny or you might fail and that too will be your destiny. I know this because if your destiny is to go to colledge you will you might try and try not to but you will one way or another.
3. I have fased the challenge of being mean no matter how hard I try I always come out being mean.
