Yesterday’s Field Trip: The Film
What did you think about the movie we saw, “Please Vote For Me?” You can answer with any comments you wish, or you can respond to someone else’s comments. You may choose to answer some or all of these questions, but don’t let my questions limit you.
Who would you have voted for, and why? Why wouldn’t you have voted for the other candidates? What surprised you about life in China today? What did you think about how the parents acted? What about the teacher - do you think she let things get out of control on purpose? How about how the kids behaved towards their parents? What message about democracy did this film have? What message do you think the people in the film got?
I’ll save my comments after I read what some of you have to say!

Me, myself, I would’ve voted for Lue Leing because he seemed he knew what he was doing and he knew how to control the students when they needed to be controlled.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:16 am
I thought that the movie was a pretty good. I would have voted for luo lei. What surprised me about the kids is the way that they treat their parents.I think the message about democracy this movie has is that the country will be better with someone in charge of it.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:17 am
I would have voted for Lou Lei because he’s been class monitor for 2 years so he has more experience than anyone else. He looks like he would really take charge and make order.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:19 am
I think Lue Leing because he seems more confident and more capable of contraling the class.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:19 am
i liked the film because it was kind of cool to see little kids having a mini democratic election. all of the kids listened to the kid in power, which was probably lou lei. the election was probably preparing them for the future but in a way not because there no democracy. i wonder how china would be if its government was monarchy…:)
November 7th, 2007 at 9:20 am
I would have voted for Xuxiao because I thought she would have been strict but not would not hit people or pull their clothes. I would have not voted for the other candidates because I thought they were too mean.I thought the kids were too spoiled and treated their parents like dirt
November 7th, 2007 at 9:20 am
I really enjoyed the movie yesterday if I were to vote I would have voted for the girl because I think that she would make a great candidate.Another reason why I would have voted for her is because she is not really bossy and I would not like to be bossed around like Luo-Lei and Cheng-Cheng bossed people around.I think the parents were a little competitive and they wanted to win more than the kids wanted to win.Yes I think she did let the class get out of control because she wanted to see how the kids would work things out.I think the kids were a little mean to their parents they were really disrespectful to their parents.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:20 am
I think the movie we saw,”Please Vote For Me”, was a very good movie demonstration . I would have voted for Lou Lei because he was a person that took care of the class well and could change his ways if he needed to. I would have not voted for Cheng Cheng because he wasn’t very convincing to me that he was a good class monitor, and i would have not voted for Xiafei because she was not strict enough to control the class if something happened.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:22 am
I would’ve chosen Xu Xiao because she wasn’t spoiled like Chen Chen or strict like Luo Lei,she’s just a sweet little 3rd grader who wants to win to make sure everything is where it’s suppose to be.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:22 am
I think i will pick Lou Lei because he has being monitor for two years and he has experience and he know how to be in charge.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:23 am
This movie was very interesting. I can’t believe how different they act than kids in the U.S. To me Luo Lei was the best choice to be class monitor.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:23 am
I liked the way he talked to their parents because it was hilarious and for some reason they get away with it.
i know if i say that i wouldn’t have lips to say anything with.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:23 am
I think the parents took it to far with the advice.Like one of the parents told their kid to make noise while another kid was telling their speech. That is just rude, mean, and sneaky.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:25 am
I would have voted for the girl because she would have been a good class monitor. She could have changed and not cry too much. She was nice and she could of been a good leader.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:27 am
I think the teacher did let things get out of control on purpose to show the kids how complicated Democracy is and that it can get a lot out of control. I think she wanted to do that because the principal told her to do that because if she didn’t let things out of control, and handle it herself, and still be the boss, that wouldn’t be Democracy. That would be that thingy with the word total in it. Totalitarianism I think. Plus, I think the teacher did that also because she wanted to convince them that Democracy was bad. How I think she did that was that she let everything out of control and the kids didn’t like it that she wasn’t doing anything to help when kids were teasing each other and they all started crying. She wanted them to think that Democracy is crazy and communism is the most in control, and best way. So, the kids don’t like Democracy because things didn’t go right. So that’s why I think the teacher let things out of control on purpose.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:28 am
I thought the movie was very informal. I would have voted for Cheng Cheng because he is bossy, a leader, and he wouldn’t beat up people.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:29 am
I think ”Please Vote For Me” was a very interesting film and it showed me how the Chinese government is to its people. It also showed me that in China, power is everything.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:29 am
I really enjoyed the movie yesterday. If I were in the movie I would of voted for Luo-Lei because he has been class moniter for 2 years and he wuold really make the students be quiet when they were to noisy. He would also help the teacher make the students do their work right away.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:30 am
I would pick Xiaofei because I felt that she would make a good leader. I also thought that she didn’t have enough support because the other candidates had two parents she only had her mom to support her. I wouldn’t have voted for the other kids because they where too demanding to the other kids and they would beat them if they didn’t listen. I think that the parents’ were taking this election too serious because it was the democratic process which was new to them since China is a communist country.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:30 am
i agree with angelo about voting for buuuuuuuut about liking the movie i can’t agree!
November 7th, 2007 at 9:33 am
I think that the parents acted kind of stranged and carried away with the whole electing class monitor thing that they were willing to waste their money so that their only child could become class monitor and so that they would get the money they wasted on their their child’s classmates like Lou Lei and the monorail.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:35 am
I agree with Taylor. She is totally right about teacher.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:36 am
I would vote for XuXiao because I don’t think she is to strict and she won’t hit anybody.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:39 am
I would have voted for the girl. I think she is the only one that one fairly. She had no fancy like Cheng Cheng (underwear guy) or Lu Lei but she had nice original campaign. I would have voted for her. She did say something clearly that I realized that both boys didn’t say. She said that she will cry but that wouldn’t back her down tomake a commitment to be the class monitor, something like that she said. I never said she said what I wrote exactly.
Something that shocked me is that China’s goverment is like nothing to the U.S. Over there, you don’t have any power but here you do. Its scary how the world is way different form the place you know. Its amazing how the community of one and another is different from what we know.
I do agree with Taylor with what she said. She is probilly right. She has gone beyond and has come up with why the teacher has let the class go out of control
November 7th, 2007 at 9:39 am
This movie was very interesting. I can’t believe how different they act than kids in the U.S. To me Luo Lei was the best choice to be class monitor. I thought this, because Luo Lei looked like he was determined and would be able to take control of the class. Xuxiao was to delicate for the job and too nice. Nobody would respect her because of how she acted. Cheng Cheng was a liar and he backstabbed people only to get votes. The teacher let the class get out of control on purpose. She did this, because she wanted to see how the candidates for class monitor would handle a situation were nobody was in order like real leaders in China have to do. The kids were mean to their parents, because probably they were frustrated, This movie was good, because to me it showed me how democracy really forms.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:40 am
I think that the movie was a good movie for finding out stuff. Or in other words it was great. I would of voted for Luo-Lei because of all the things he did I thought that he would of been a good class monitor. For example he was class monitor for two years so everybody must think that he’s the best one for the job. I would not have voted for Cheng Cheng because it looked like if he was cheating. And the girl I wouldn’t vote for her because I felt that she wasn’t good for that job. I that the parents were taking it to far. It almost looked like if the parents wanted to be the class monitor more than the kids. I still don’t know why she let things get out of control.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:40 am
I would have voted for Lou Lei because he was class monitor for two years and he has more experience than all of cheng cheng and he really gets people’s atention by hiting them and he took them on a fieldtrip.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:41 am
I wouldn’t have voted for the other candidates because Luo-Lei would beat people up. And I wouldn’t have voted for Xo Xiafei because she is a cry baby. What surprised me about the life in China is that how much the school and life at home is different. I think the parents acted selfish. I think she let things go out of control on purpose. The kids acted very bad to their parents. The message about democracy in this film shows how democracy is cruel and unfair. The message the kids got is that communism is easier.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:42 am
I would of vote for XuXiao because she seemed to be working really hard and she is really nice!!!
November 7th, 2007 at 9:43 am
i agree with David Nelson because he was monitor for 2 years and he has more
experience than anyone else and he would know what to do.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:45 am
I would of voted for lou lei because he has two years of experience
November 7th, 2007 at 11:48 am
I really liked the girl and I’d vote for the dog.
November 7th, 2007 at 11:49 am
I would vote 4 the girl because even though it seemed she was not very controlling, she could do well if she had the chance.
November 7th, 2007 at 11:50 am
I mean I’d vote for the girl and I liked the movie alot.
November 7th, 2007 at 11:51 am
I whould have voted for Cheng Cheng (underwear boy) because he was a strong
leader and when he said quiet evrey one was quiet.
November 7th, 2007 at 11:52 am
I think I would of picked Xuxiao because Luo-Lei was to strict and always hit people a lot. Cheng-Cheng is a liar and he pied in his pants. Im sure Xuxiao would be strict but not that much also she would be re resposible.
November 7th, 2007 at 11:59 am
I would have voted for Luo Lei because he has the most experience being the class monitor. I would not have voted for Cheng Cheng because he was not experienced at being a class monitor, and i would not have voted for Xuxiao because if she was the class monitor she wouldn’t be a strong one because she doesn’t speak loudly and she doesn’t speak loudly and is very shy. I think the teacher stays out of the voting business because she wants to see if they handle it themselves.
November 7th, 2007 at 11:59 am
I would have voted for XuXiao because when he would tell the class to be quiet the class would stop talking and he didn’t cry when kids would tell him something.
I wouldn’t vote for the other two kids because the girl cried when the class was booing her and the boy would hit the kids when they were not doing something right.I learned that in China the class monitor could hit the kids when they don’t do the things right.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:01 pm
I would have voted for underwear boy because he was nicer than Lou but also tough.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:03 pm
I would voted for luo-lei because he has been class monitor for 2 years and he is very controlling. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i think thats it.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
I’m putting up a question.
Do you think that this movie is important to see? Do you think it will change China if it leaks through the computer firewalls? If you think so, how?
My answer to Ms.Zana’s question is:
I would vote for Cheng-Cheng because he is strong. I wouldn’t vote for Luo-Lei because he has already had a chance as class moniter and he’s mean. Xuxiao is kind of easily shy and if you are mean then you won’tbe disciplined then everything would fall apart.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
I would of have voted for no one because well the fat one is to mean and violent and the skinny one that has his dad as a police man is buying people’s votes. The girl is just to shy and I think is not strong enough to handle the problems and she crys too much and if she cries if someone doesn’t listen then havoc is going to become of the students and they won’t ever start to listen to her.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:05 pm
i would vote for xuxiao because she had a fair election and did not bribe people and tried her best.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
i think the teacher let Che-chang get out of control. Why bacause he made Xuxiao cry and also bacause also I would vote for Xuxiao because she did not yell at anyone at all. she was a very nice person.
THANK
YOU!!!!!!!
November 7th, 2007 at 12:26 pm
I think the teacher let the things go out of control on purpose because they were learning about democracy ,and if she tells then what to do there is no democracy there. It will be like what is the point of the students voting and learning about democracy if she is going to tell them what to do. If she tells then what to do she should just pick the monitor herself.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:33 pm
I would have voted for the girl because even though she was shy, she could have probably achieved in whatever she set her mind to like bossing people around and maybe with all of the her new experience she would have become a little bit more strict towards the class. I also know that for a fact the way the children were treating their parents would never happen here in the U.S.A. For me the movie was really interesting.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:33 pm
I would have voted for Cheng Cheng(underwear boy) because he can control the whole class and he is not that strict. I wouldn’t have voted for the girl because she cries to much and she is very shy. I wouldn’t want a class monitor that can barely control the class while everyone is studying. The other boy is stronger than her because he can control the class, but he beats people up to control them. What surprised me the most is that the parents helped them win and they didn’t care if they hurt the otherkids feelings.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:34 pm
I think I would have voted for Cheng Cheng because everyone got quiet when he said quiet so he would make a good leader. I think that the parents really wanted their kids to be class monitor.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
It was a cool movie. It was boring at first but then it was cool.
I wanted Chen-Cheng to win because he was mean and nasty but he had power.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:36 pm
I wouldn’t have picked anyone because Lou Lei is to bossy and hits people to much and Cheng Cheng has no experience in being a class monitor. I also wouldn’t have picked Xuxiao because she is to shy and doesn’t speak loud enough. Oh and what I liked about the park is that I got to hang out with my friends and just chill.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:37 pm
I think Please Vote For Me is a good and interesting movie. I think I would vote for Xuxiao because she probably would have controll of the class but she would not be so strict. What suprised me about China is that they have to live by what the goverment tells them.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:41 pm
I would have voted Chang Chang for class monitor because even though he is nasty whenever he was doing a speech against an opponent, and everyone got out of control he just yelled “QUIET!”, and everyone would be quiet.
