To get a B your group must answer 5 questions. Your answers must be in complete sentences. You must use correct grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. You must answer question 2.

To get an A you must answer all 6 questions. Your answers must be in complete sentences. You must use correct grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. Your ideas must be on topic and be understandable. You must give examples from the text.

1. Say what the tone (mood) of the song is.

2. Figure out the meaning of the song, or the meaning of part of the song. Explain the sentences that are confusing.

3. Comment on the words the author has chosen to use. Are they easy, difficult, bad language? How do they affect the tone or meaning of the song?

4 Find examples of figurative language (metaphors, similes, personification, idioms, hyperbole) Are there any sensory images? What do they mean? Why does the author use them?
5. How are the sentences structured? Are they normal sentences, or are the words and clauses in an unusual order? Are the lines short or long? Is the punctuation special? How does this affect the poem’s tone and meaning?

6. How do rhythm, repetition, or rhyme affect the poem’s tone and meaning?
